The biggest press that’s come out of ‘Wanderlust’ was that’s how Jennifer Aniston met her latest man, Justin Theroux, and after checking the trailer, I’m sure the marketing of this film will center around that, then afterward, sadly, we know Jennifer’s track record with men. ‘Wanderlust’ will be released in February which usually means the studio isn’t putting high hopes on it so it gets burned off, hoping for a quick buck opening weekend before word of mouth stops it in its tracks. Interestingly enough, this one is produced by Judd Apatow, but from this trailer, there’s nothing that even comes close to crossing the line, and the humor is just blandly nice for a safe chuckle.

Paul Rudd seems to take nearly every film thrown his way which is sad since he’s a very underrated actor, and after seeing Aniston’s turn in ‘Horrible Bosses‘ playing way against type, I want to see her stretch herself more. She was amazing in ‘The Good Girl‘ from way back when, but so many of her roles have her playing the same type over and over. When you’ve got someone like Emma Stone breathing down your back, it’s time to do more of a range of films.

George and Linda are an overextended, stressed out Manhattan couple. After George is downsized out of his job, they find themselves with only one option: to move in with George’s awful brother in Atlanta.
On the way there, George and Linda stumble upon Elysium, an idyllic community populated by colorful characters who embrace a different way of looking at things. Money? It can’t buy happiness. Careers? Who needs them? Clothes? Only if you want them.
Is Elysium the fresh start George and Linda need? Or will the change of perspective cause more problems than it solves?
‘Wanderlust’ is directed by David Wain (Role Models, Wet Hot American Summer) and has a good supporting cast including: Malin Akerman, Justin Theroux, Joe Lo Truglio and Alan Alda.
I love being wrong on movies, but so far the odds aren’t looking to good for this Rudd/Aniston reunion movie.
